Keighley Boys' Grammar School - Camp
Home page

This was held during the school holidays, near Kirkcudbright, Scotland, for about 2 weeks under tents. An advance party ("Foragers") used to go first and set everything up then the main body went via train from Keighley station. I seem to remember going twice and one time took my bike which was very useful as "civilisation" was quite a way off. We used to get washed in a stream and when going to the toilet (a bucket in a hut) it was referred to as going to the "Swanee" - why I never found out. The tents in 1939 look identical to those in 1962!
