I've discovered this
photo of the party which "Tex" Mitchell, so-called because he always
spoke with a drawl, and "Ben Tren" took to Belgium at Easter 1956.
I've forgotten most names (I was only 13 at the time) but the tall guy on the
right was named Merrett and I see such eminent personnages as Geoff Blackburn,
"Smeb" Smith, John "Herbert" Sunderland, Arthur (?)
Longbottom, (?)McVeigh, "General George" Greaves who encountered a
little trouble coming back thro' Customs as he had bought a wrist watch costing
c£25 and declared it (the whole trip cost only that!!), Ross Uttley, Keith
Garside (almost hidden, 5th from right)), (?) Scott (almost dead centre). The
chap at front right, whose name I think was Hogg, turned up at the departure
point in his own Austin Atlantic!!!
I hope you can use the
photo on the web site - and some or all of the comments if you wish.
I'm not on the photo, I
took it. In those days a roll of film
(12 shots) was very expensive and cost a further small fortune to develop and
print.
